Hi, Everyone! My name is Hallie Rush and I am 12 yrs old. I train with Laura Hightower/Jordan Gilchrist of Summerhill Farms which is located in Flowermound, Texas but I live in Tennessee. I show everything from ponies through the 1.20 jumpers. I live on the road without my family year round but Laura and Jordan are my show moms (they have become my second family ;-0 ) My mom comes back and forth to see me and she preps my show horses that are kept in Tennessee so that I swap horses/ponies off during the show season. I also catch ride at the shows for other barns. My day is complicated! I wake up super early everyday and start grooming horses, tacking up horses and doing any barn errands that need to be done. I then hack/lesson any horses that need to be ridden so that Jordan/Laura can watch. Somewhere in all of the above I find time to grab a bite to eat then continue working in the barn. Before dinner we all work together to make sure the horses are taken care of and medicated then its off to eat! After dinner its time for me to start my homeschool work. I am lucky that I have my mom……..she worked in the education field for years and she’s always there to make sure that I am on track. I use Enlightium Christian Academy and I do the acclerated program which allows me to finish two years of school work in a year. We chose this program so that I could be finished with my education early, so that I can ride at the level that I want to compete at. I want to ride in the Olympics and I want to ride in college so its important that my education is taken care of. The most important part of homeschooling is to have a routine so that you do not fall behind. Its also important to have access to someone that can “tutor” you when you have questions, this is where my mom comes in. Even when we were back at my home barn in Tennessee my mom homeschooled me and my older brother. Doing so it gave us the ability to train multiple hours a day. Another important thing to consider is the laptop and having a good internet connection. I am lucky that I show a lot in Bob Bell’s shows and he always has a “lounge” with internet connection so that I can work. Wednesday- Friday are a little harder because these are the beginning of show days which means an earlier start in the mornings plus I hold horses at the ring for Jordan to show. I know its hard for most people to understand why I would want this lifestyle but its exactly what I want. The question that get asked a lot is if I have any friends! Of course I do! My best friends show with Summerhill so they are on the road with me year round too and then I have plenty of show friends as well. I am also blessed to be part of the Kathryn Lily team which gives me a team of friends that may not show on the same circuit with me but we keep up with each other through Instagram, blogs, facebook and text messages. It’s a huge support system!
